Description
The Victron Buck-Boost DC-DC Converter is a programmable converter for charging a 12V or 24V service battery in vehicles fitted with a smart alternator, such as those with regenerative braking and Euro 5 or Euro 6 engines. On these vehicles the alternator voltage varies widely and can be too high or too low to charge an auxiliary battery correctly. The Buck-Boost charges the auxiliary battery at a stable, pre-set voltage regardless of what the alternator is doing, eliminating both the high voltages (for example 15.4 V on some Mercedes systems) and the low voltages a smart alternator produces.
A single unit works with 12V, 24V and mixed 12/24V systems: it can be programmed to charge a 12V or a 24V auxiliary battery from either a 12V or a 24V alternator and starter battery. A built-in engine-running detection system prevents deep discharge of the vehicle's starter battery, and the converter can alternatively be switched by a programmable input (D+, CAN bus or a (+)15 connection). This 100A model is the largest in the range and charges an auxiliary battery at up to 100 A on a 12V system or 50 A on a 24V system.
The converter is fully programmable through a simple PC application (a USB type A to type B cable is required), letting you set charge current, input current limit and charge parameters. Separate input and output status LEDs report converter state, input voltage, engine detection and battery condition at a glance.
