The Buck-Boost charges the auxiliary battery at a stable, pre-set voltage regardless of what the alternator is doing, eliminating both the high voltages (for example 15.4 V on some Mercedes systems) and the low voltages a smart alternator produces.\u003c\/p\u003e\u003cp\u003eA single unit works with 12V, 24V and mixed 12\/24V systems: it can be programmed to charge a 12V or a 24V auxiliary battery from either a 12V or a 24V alternator and starter battery. A built-in engine-running detection system prevents deep discharge of the vehicle's starter battery, and the converter can alternatively be switched by a programmable input (D+, CAN bus or a (+)15 connection).
