Victron Galvanic Isolator VDI-64 (64A)

Description
The Victron Galvanic Isolator VDI-64 prevents electrolytic corrosion on a boat connected to shore power. It blocks the low-voltage DC currents that can flow into the vessel through the shore power earth (ground) wire, currents that would otherwise corrode the boat's underwater metals such as the hull, propeller and shaft.
Internally the isolator uses two diodes connected in anti-parallel. Wired this way they pass current in both directions, but only above a threshold of about 1.4 Vdc. Because the small galvanic potential difference between dissimilar metals sits below this threshold, the isolator blocks the resulting stray DC and stops the corrosion current, while still allowing a genuine AC earth-fault current to pass so the residual-current device can trip and keep the installation safe.
The VDI-64 is the largest model in the range, rated for a continuous current of 64 A, and is fitted directly behind the boat's 115/230 V shore connection, in the green safety-earth conductor ahead of every other ground connection on the vessel. It is a fully passive, maintenance-free device suitable for use on 115 V and 230 V systems.
