Description

The Mastervolt BI 1202-S is a conventional diode battery isolator that splits the charge current from a single alternator or battery charger between two battery banks, keeping them isolated so the engine start battery cannot be drained by the domestic loads. It is fully solid state, with no moving parts to wear.

As a diode splitter, the BI 1202-S has a voltage drop of approximately 0.6 V. This can be compensated by raising the output voltage of the connected charger or alternator; Mastervolt Mass battery chargers and Alpha Pro charge regulators include automatic voltage drop compensation as standard. The 1202-S handles a maximum alternator output of 120 A.

Construction is corrosion-proof, with aluminium heat sinks and moulded diode splitters encased in synthetic material. The synthetic end plates carry the connection lugs, and solid bolt connections with nuts and locking rings make installation quick and secure.

How many batteries does the BI 1202-S support?
It has two battery outlets, splitting the charge current from a single alternator or charger between two battery banks while keeping them isolated.
What is the maximum charge current?
The BI 1202-S is rated for a maximum alternator output of 120 A and a maximum battery charger output of 80 A.
Does the diode isolator cause a voltage drop?
Yes. As a conventional diode splitter it has a voltage drop of approximately 0.6 V. This can be compensated by raising the output voltage of the connected charger or alternator. Mastervolt Mass chargers and Alpha Pro charge regulators do this automatically.
How does the BI diode isolator compare to the Battery Mate?
The BI 1202-S is a conventional diode splitter with a small voltage drop that may need to be compensated. The Battery Mate uses MOSFET electronics with a negligible voltage drop and needs no adjustment, but the BI range is a compact, fully solid-state option for conventional systems.
Does it have any moving parts?
No. The BI 1202-S is fully solid state with moulded diode splitters, which prevents wear.
