Description

The Mastervolt Charge Mate 2502 is a voltage-sensing split charge relay for boats and vehicles with a second battery. It connects the start and service batteries together while the engine or charger is running, so both batteries are charged, then automatically isolates them when discharging so the domestic loads cannot flatten the engine start battery.

The 2502 adds selectable operating modes: on, off, auto and start assist, the latter allowing the batteries to be combined to give extra cranking power. With a high 500 A current rating it suits larger small-craft installations while remaining compact and easy to fit. It works automatically on 12 V or 24 V systems.

What does the Charge Mate 2502 do?
It is a voltage-sensing split charge relay. It connects the start and service batteries together while the engine or charger is running so both charge, and isolates them when discharging so the domestic loads cannot flatten the start battery.
What is the start assist mode?
As well as on, off and auto, the 2502 has a start assist mode that combines the batteries to provide extra cranking power, for example to help start the engine from the service battery.
What voltage and current does it handle?
It works automatically on 12 V or 24 V systems and is rated for a high maximum current of 500 A.
How does it differ from the Charge Mate 1202?
The 2502 adds selectable modes including start assist, a much higher 500 A current rating and a longer 30 second switch-on delay, making it suited to larger installations. The 1202 is a simpler relay for small systems.
What switching technology does it use?
It uses an electro-mechanical relay, with a 30 second switch-on delay and a 3 minute switch-off delay.
