Description

The Mastervolt Charge Mate Pro 90 is a current-limited electronic charge relay that distributes charger or alternator current between two battery banks, such as a starter and a service battery. It connects the batteries during charging and keeps them isolated when discharging, greatly reducing the risk of a flat starter battery.

Unlike a mechanical relay, the Charge Mate Pro limits the charge current to the second battery to 90 A, so the primary battery is always charged with priority. It is unidirectional and blocks the return current under all circumstances, even when the secondary battery sits at a higher voltage, which also prevents power dips on the onboard network. The higher 90 A rating gives a faster charge, for example when charging lithium-ion batteries, and suits large automotive alternators up to 180 A. It can run in parallel with a 225 A alternator for even higher continuous power demand.

The unit suits charging from AGM or GEL starter batteries to AGM, GEL or lithium service batteries, has a very low voltage drop of max 0.2 V and LED status indication. The IP65 electronics sit in a corrosion-resistant casing with aluminium heat sinks. An optional bypass switch enables an emergency start function. For a lithium starter battery, use part 83309004.

How is the Charge Mate Pro different from a normal split charge relay?
It is an electronic, current-limited charge relay. As well as connecting the batteries for charging and isolating them when discharging, it limits the charge current to the second battery and charges the main battery with priority, with a very low voltage drop of max 0.2 V.
What is the charge current to the second battery?
On the Charge Mate Pro 90 the charge current to the secondary battery is limited to 90 A, with power derating above 25 C. This higher rating gives a faster charge, for example for lithium-ion batteries.
What size alternator is the Pro 90 suitable for?
It is suitable for large automotive alternators up to 180 A, and can be used in parallel operation with a 225 A alternator to meet even higher continuous power demands.
Does it block reverse current?
Yes. It is unidirectional and blocks the return current under all circumstances, even when the secondary battery is at a higher voltage. This also prevents power dips on the onboard network.
Which battery types is it suitable for, and can it do an emergency start?
It is suitable for charging from AGM or GEL starter batteries to AGM, GEL or lithium service batteries; for a lithium starter battery use part 83309004. An emergency start function is possible by connecting an optional bypass switch.
