Description

The Orion IP67 12/24-50 is a high-power, fully encapsulated 12V to 24V step-up DC-DC converter for harsh and exposed installations. The casing is cast aluminium and the electronics are moulded in resin, making the unit waterproof, shockproof and ignition protected, so water, oil and dirt will not damage it. It supplies a stable 24V output of up to 50A (1200W) from a 12V battery system.

A 10 to 15V input range maintains a stable output during the voltage surges and sags caused by other equipment on the same battery, and the converter is protected against overheating for use in hot environments such as a machine room. Heavy current connections are made to M6 bolt terminals. The unit is short-circuit proof, recovers automatically from an overload through hiccup mode, and is protected against reverse polarity with an external fuse or circuit breaker.

The Orion IP67 supplies a fixed output voltage and is intended as a converter rather than a battery charger. It has no charge algorithm and no Bluetooth. For controlled multi-stage battery charging from a DC source, use an Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger instead.

Is the Orion IP67 12/24-50 a battery charger?
No. It is a step-up DC-DC converter that supplies a fixed 24V output from a 12V supply and has no multi-stage charge algorithm or Bluetooth. For controlled battery charging from a DC source, use an Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger instead.
Does this model step the voltage up or down?
It steps the voltage up. It takes a 12V input (10 to 15V range) and supplies a regulated 24V output of up to 50A and 1200W.
What does the IP67 rating mean for this converter?
The unit is fully encapsulated in a cast aluminium housing with the electronics moulded in resin, making it waterproof, shockproof and ignition protected. Water, oil and dirt will not damage it, which suits exposed and harsh installations.
How are the connections made on this model?
The 12/24-50 is a high-power unit rated to 50A and 1200W, so heavy current connections are made directly to M6 bolt terminals rather than fitted cables.
Is it protected against overload and short circuit?
Yes. It is short-circuit proof and uses hiccup mode for overload protection, recovering automatically once the fault is removed. Reverse polarity protection requires an external fuse or circuit breaker, which is not included.
