The Victron Orion-Tr 12/12-9 (110W) is an isolated DC-DC converter delivering up to 9A continuous at a nominal 12.2 V output from a 12V nominal supply. Output voltage is adjustable across 10-15 V and the unit is short circuit proof with a remote on/off terminal. It is a voltage converter, not a battery charger; for charging use an Orion-Tr Smart.

Description

The Victron Orion-Tr 12/12-9 (110W) is an isolated DC-DC converter that steps a 12V nominal input down or up to a regulated 12V output, delivering up to 9A continuous at 12.2 V. It provides 110W of continuous output power and uses galvanic isolation of 200VDC between input, output and case, which separates the two circuits and helps suppress ground loops and electrical noise.

The output voltage is adjustable across 10-15 V, so the unit can be trimmed to suit the connected equipment. It is not intended for battery charging, as it has no charge algorithm. For charging a battery from a second source, Victron recommends an Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger instead. The converter is short circuit proof and an unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel to increase available output current.

A remote on/off terminal removes the need for a high current switch in the input wiring and can be driven by a low power switch or an engine run/stop signal. Output current is reduced automatically at high ambient temperature to protect the unit, and all connections are made on screw terminals that need no special tools. With the screw terminals oriented downwards the converter carries an IP43 rating.

Can this Orion-Tr converter charge a battery?
No. The Orion-Tr 12/12-9 is a DC-DC voltage converter with an adjustable but fixed output, not a battery charger, and it has no charge algorithm. To charge a battery from a second source, Victron recommends an Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger.
Is the input electrically isolated from the output?
Yes. This is an isolated model with 200VDC galvanic isolation between the input, the output and the case, which helps prevent ground loops and reduces the transfer of electrical noise between the two circuits.
Can the output voltage be adjusted?
Yes. The output voltage is adjustable across 10-15 V so the converter can be set to suit the connected equipment. The nominal output is 12.2 V.
Can I connect several units together for more current?
Yes. The converter is short circuit proof and an unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel to increase the available output current. A single unit delivers up to 9A continuous.
What does the remote on/off terminal do?
It lets you switch the converter on and off without a high current switch in the input wiring. It can be operated by a low power switch or, for example, an engine run/stop signal.
