Description

The Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70 is a 230 V multifunctional inverter/charger for professional marine, vehicle and off-grid systems built around a 48 V battery bank. It combines a strong 5000 VA pure sine wave inverter with a 70 A battery charger in a single enclosure, supplying clean 230 VAC mains power from the batteries. The 48 V architecture keeps DC currents low, simplifying cabling on larger installations.

PowerAssist is the standout capability. When shore or generator power is limited, the MultiPlus-II adds energy from the battery to cover load peaks, preventing the source from overloading while still using any spare capacity to recharge. The integrated transfer switch returns loads to the inverter in under 20 milliseconds during a grid failure, so sensitive electronics keep running without disruption.

Designed for energy storage and solar self-consumption, the MultiPlus-II works with both MPPT solar chargers and grid-tie inverters, has built-in anti-islanding and a long list of grid-code approvals, and can be paralleled or three-phased for higher output. An external current sensor extends PowerControl and PowerAssist up to 100 A. Setup, monitoring and control run through VictronConnect, a GX device and the free VRM portal.

What does PowerAssist do?
PowerAssist compensates for a limited shore or generator supply by adding power from the battery when loads peak. This prevents the source from being overloaded and tripping, while the spare capacity is still used to recharge the battery.
How fast does it switch over during a power failure?
The integrated transfer switch hands the loads to the inverter in less than 20 milliseconds, so computers and other sensitive electronics keep running without interruption.
Can I run several units together for more power?
Yes. Up to six MultiPlus-II units can be paralleled for higher output, and three of the same model can be configured for three phase operation. Up to six sets of three can be parallel connected for very large systems.
Is a battery temperature sensor included?
On the 48 V models the battery temperature sensor is not supplied as standard. It can be ordered separately under part number ASS000001000 for temperature-compensated charging.
Does it support grid-tied energy storage?
Yes. The MultiPlus-II has built-in anti-islanding and an extensive list of country grid-code approvals for ESS (Energy Storage System) applications. See the ESS design and installation manual for configuration details.
Do I need a GX device?
A GX device such as a Cerbo GX is not essential to run the unit, but it is recommended. It provides full system monitoring, control and free remote access through the VRM portal.
