Description
The Battery Balancer equalises the state of charge of two series connected 12V batteries, or of several parallel strings of series connected batteries. In a 24V or 48V lead acid bank, small differences between batteries mean the higher voltage battery is repeatedly overcharged while the lower one is undercharged, which shortens the life of the whole bank. The Battery Balancer corrects this automatically.
When the charge voltage of a 24V system rises above 27V, the balancer switches on and compares the voltage across the two series connected batteries. It then draws a current of up to 1A from the battery, or parallel string, with the higher voltage. The resulting difference in charge current brings all the batteries back towards the same state of charge, so the bank charges evenly and lasts longer. A 48V battery bank can be balanced with three Battery Balancers.
Simple to install and maintenance free in use, the Battery Balancer is an inexpensive way to protect and extend the life of series connected lead acid batteries in 24V and 48V marine and off grid systems.
