Description
The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 150/70-MC4 is an ultra-fast maximum power point tracking solar charge controller that accepts a PV array voltage of up to 150 V. The high input voltage lets you wire panels in longer series strings, keeping cable runs and current low while still serving a 12, 24 or 48 V battery bank, with the system voltage selected automatically on first use.
Its ultra-fast MPPT tracking captures up to 30 per cent more energy than a PWM controller and up to 10 per cent more than slower MPPT controllers, while the fanless design operates at more than 98 per cent peak efficiency. Built-in Bluetooth pairs with the free VictronConnect app for setup, live monitoring and firmware updates, and the VE.Direct port links the controller to a GX device for system integration and remote monitoring through the VRM online portal.
This is the same controller as the screw-terminal version but fitted with two pairs of MC4 connectors for the PV connection, making it quick to connect to MC4-terminated solar panels. A programmable relay and a remote on/off input add flexible control over the wider installation, and up to ten units can be synchronised over Bluetooth for parallel operation on larger arrays.

Why choose an MPPT controller over a PWM controller?
An ultra-fast MPPT controller continuously tracks the maximum power point of the solar array, harvesting up to 30 per cent more energy than a PWM controller and up to 10 per cent more than slower MPPT controllers. This makes it especially worthwhile when the array voltage is higher than the battery voltage.
How do I set up and monitor the controller?
The controller has built-in Bluetooth, so you can pair it with the free VictronConnect app on a phone or tablet to configure charge settings, view live performance and install firmware updates without any extra hardware.
Can I integrate it into a larger Victron system?
Yes. The VE.Direct port connects the controller to a GX device for system integration and to a PC, and through a GX device the data is forwarded to the VRM online portal for remote monitoring.
How do I size my solar array for this model?
Keep the PV array within 150 V absolute maximum, with a 145 V start-up and operating maximum, and within 50 A maximum PV short circuit current. The 150/70-MC4 handles a nominal PV power of 1000 W at 12 V, 2000 W at 24 V and 4000 W at 48 V.
How does the MC4 PV connection work?
This model has two pairs of MC4 connectors for the PV connection, allowing direct connection of MC4-terminated panels. The maximum is 30 A per MC4 connector, so MC4 splitter pairs may be needed when paralleling several strings.
