Description

The Victron BMV-702 is a high-precision battery monitor that adds a second measurement input to the BMV-700 platform. Alongside the true state of charge of the main battery, the auxiliary input can be programmed to read the voltage of a second battery, battery temperature or the midpoint voltage of a series-connected bank. Monitoring the midpoint voltage gives an early warning of a failing cell or battery in a large, expensive bank.

The kit contains the 63 mm round head unit, the 500 A / 50 mV shunt, a 10 metre RJ12 cable and a fused battery cable, so no further parts are required. As with all BMV monitors, it calculates ampere-hours consumed, state of charge and the time remaining at the present rate of discharge, and provides a programmable alarm and relay.

A VE.Direct port connects the BMV-702 to a Victron GX device or computer, and an optional VE.Direct to Bluetooth Smart dongle adds wireless monitoring from a phone or tablet.

What can the BMV-702 auxiliary input measure?
The auxiliary input can be programmed to measure the voltage of a second battery, the battery temperature, or the midpoint voltage of a series-connected battery bank, each with its own alarm and relay settings.
What is midpoint voltage monitoring?
The midpoint voltage is the voltage halfway along a string of series-connected batteries. A large or increasing deviation from half the total voltage points to a failing cell or battery, so a midpoint alarm allows corrective action before an expensive bank is damaged.
What is supplied in the BMV-702 kit?
The kit includes the BMV-702 head unit, a 500 A / 50 mV current shunt, a 10 metre RJ12 connecting cable and a battery cable fitted with a 1 A slow-blow fuse, along with a square and round front bezel, a rear securing ring and front-mounting screws.
Do I need an extra sensor for temperature monitoring?
Yes. To use the auxiliary input for battery temperature, an optional Victron temperature sensor (ASS000100000) is required. Voltage and midpoint monitoring need no additional sensor.
How does the BMV-702 differ from the BMV-712 Smart?
Both share the same monitoring features and auxiliary input. The BMV-712 Smart adds built-in Bluetooth for wireless monitoring and configuration, while the BMV-702 needs the optional VE.Direct to Bluetooth Smart dongle for the same wireless function.
