Description

The Victron BMV-712 Smart is a high-precision battery monitor with Bluetooth built in, supplied here with a black front bezel. It tracks the true state of charge of the main battery and reports voltage, current, power, ampere-hours consumed and the time remaining at the present rate of discharge. Bluetooth lets you read all of this on a phone or tablet through the VictronConnect app, change settings and update the firmware without a separate dongle.

An auxiliary input can be programmed to read the voltage of a second battery, battery temperature or the midpoint voltage of a series-connected bank, giving early warning of a failing cell in a large battery bank. The kit contains the 63 mm round head unit, the 500 A / 50 mV shunt, a 10 metre RJ12 cable and a fused battery cable, so no further parts are needed.

A programmable visual and audible alarm and a programmable relay allow automatic warnings and load shedding, and a VE.Direct port connects the monitor to a Victron GX device or computer.

Does the BMV-712 Smart need a Bluetooth dongle?
No. The BMV-712 Smart has Bluetooth built in, so you can monitor data, change settings and update the firmware directly from the VictronConnect app on a phone or tablet without any additional dongle.
What can the BMV-712 Smart auxiliary input measure?
The auxiliary input can be programmed to measure the voltage of a second battery, the battery temperature, or the midpoint voltage of a series-connected battery bank, each with its own alarm and relay settings.
What is supplied in the BMV-712 Smart kit?
The kit includes the BMV-712 Smart head unit, a 500 A / 50 mV current shunt, a 10 metre RJ12 connecting cable and a battery cable fitted with a 1 A slow-blow fuse, along with a square and round front bezel, a rear securing ring and front-mounting screws.
What battery voltages does the BMV-712 Smart support?
The BMV-712 Smart accepts a supply voltage range of 6.5 to 70 VDC, covering 12, 24 and 48 V battery systems. For higher voltages up to 95 VDC choose the BMV-702, or the BMV-700H for 60 to 385 VDC systems.
Why is low current draw important for lithium batteries?
A lithium battery has very little capacity left once it has shut down on low voltage, and a residual drain can damage it if the system is left discharged. The BMV-712 Smart draws less than 1 mA, which helps protect a lithium bank during long periods of inactivity.
