Description
The Centaur Charger is Victron Energy's traditional analogue battery charger, built for the rigours of the marine and mobile world. The aluminium epoxy powder coated case carries a drip shield and stainless steel fixings to withstand heat, humidity and salt air, while the circuit boards are protected with an acrylic coating for maximum corrosion resistance. Temperature sensors keep the power components within their specified limits, reducing output current automatically under extreme conditions.
A universal 90 to 265 VAC input means the Centaur operates anywhere in the world at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz, and it also accepts a 90 to 400 VDC supply for AC-DC and DC-DC operation. Three isolated outputs let it charge three separate battery banks at once, with each output capable of delivering the full rated current.
Charging follows a three-stage IUoU characteristic with temperature compensation. The unit charges at bulk rate until output falls to 70% of the rated current, at which point a four-hour absorption timer begins before the charger drops to float. A DIP switch selects the optimum charge and float voltages for Flooded Lead-acid, Gel or AGM batteries.

How many battery banks can the Centaur 12/100 charge at once?
It has three isolated outputs, so it can charge three separate battery banks simultaneously. Each output is capable of supplying the full rated charge current.
What input voltage does it accept?
The Centaur has a universal 90 to 265 VAC input and works at either 50 Hz or 60 Hz, so it can be used worldwide. It also accepts a 90 to 400 VDC supply for AC-DC and DC-DC operation.
Which battery types does it support?
A DIP switch selects the optimum charge and float voltages for Flooded Lead-acid, Gel-Cell or AGM batteries.
How does the three-stage charging work?
It uses an IUoU characteristic. The charger runs at bulk rate until the output falls to 70% of the rated amps, then a four-hour absorption timer begins, after which it switches to float. An internal sensor compensates the charge voltage by -2 mV per degree Celsius per cell.
What battery bank size is recommended?
For this 12V 100A model Victron recommends a battery capacity of 400 - 1000 Ah.
