Description

The Victron Isolation Transformer 2500W is a professional marine transformer that fully breaks the electrical connection between shore power and your vessel. Shore power feeds the primary winding while the boat runs from the isolated secondary, so there is no direct continuity between the two. This eliminates stray current and galvanic corrosion, protecting your shaft, propeller, sacrificial anodes and other underwater metals, and it removes the need for a separate galvanic isolator or polarity alarm.

With the boat fully isolated from the shore earth, you can safely connect to almost any shore supply anywhere in the world. The transformer works on 115V or 230V systems and can convert between them, acting as a step-up or step-down transformer (115V to 120V, 230V to 240V, 115V to 240V or 230V to 120V). Its 1:1.05 winding ratio raises the output by 5% to compensate for the voltage drop common on long marina supply cables.

Toroidal winding technology keeps the unit quiet, efficient and relatively light, and a built-in soft start limits inrush current so the shore breaker does not trip when you plug in. The aluminium enclosure is rated IP21 and, like all core Victron products, the transformer carries a five year warranty.

How does an isolation transformer prevent galvanic corrosion?
It completely breaks the electrical connection between the shore ground and the boat. Shore power feeds the primary winding and the vessel is connected to the isolated secondary, so no galvanic current can flow through the water between your boat's underwater metals and other boats or the shore. This protects the shaft, propeller and sacrificial anodes.
Do I still need a galvanic isolator or polarity alarm with this unit?
No. Because the isolation transformer fully separates the boat from the shore earth, it removes the need for a separate galvanic isolator and polarity alarm. It also lets a GFCI on the output work correctly for onboard electrical safety.
Can this transformer connect to any shore supply worldwide?
Yes. It works on both 115V and 230V systems at 50Hz or 60Hz, and it can convert between voltages (for example 230V input to a 120V output, or 115V input to a 240V output). This lets you safely plug into shore supplies in different countries. Note that it cannot convert frequency between 50Hz and 60Hz.
What does the 1:1.05 ratio do?
The transformer boosts the output voltage by 5% relative to the input. This compensates for the voltage drop that commonly occurs on long marina supply cables and busy dock circuits, so your onboard equipment receives a healthier voltage.
Will plugging in trip the marina circuit breaker?
No. A soft start (inrush current limiter) is standard on all Victron isolation transformers. It limits the initial magnetising current so the upstream shore breaker does not trip when you switch the unit on.
What size loads will 2500W support?
The 2500W (2.5 kVA) rating delivers up to 11A at 230V or 22A at 115V continuously. This suits mid-size vessels running typical shore-power loads such as battery chargers, water heaters, air conditioning and galley appliances within that current limit.
