Description

The Victron MultiPlus-II 12/3000/120-32 is a multifunctional inverter/charger for 12 V battery systems, combining a powerful sine wave inverter, a sophisticated battery charger and a high-speed AC transfer switch in a single compact enclosure. It is well suited to professional marine, vehicle and land based off-grid installations, and serves as a core component in a Victron Energy Storage System (ESS) with built-in anti-islanding for grid-connected use. Its PowerControl and PowerAssist functions let it work alongside a limited shore or generator supply, first reducing charge current and then boosting the available power from the battery to prevent the source being overloaded. When the incoming supply fails, the inverter takes over the critical loads within milliseconds, so connected electronics keep running without interruption. An optional external AC current sensor extends current sensing for self-consumption optimisation and grid feed control. A second AC output powers loads that should shut down when no external AC is present, and units can be paralleled or arranged for three-phase operation as systems grow. Configuration is handled through VEConfigure with an MK3-USB interface, while connecting a GX device such as a Cerbo GX adds local and remote monitoring through the free VRM portal.

How fast does the MultiPlus-II switch to battery power during a grid failure?
The transfer to inverter operation happens in less than 20 milliseconds, so computers and other electronic equipment continue to operate without disruption.
What do PowerControl and PowerAssist do?
PowerControl lets you set a maximum shore or generator current; the unit then uses only the spare capacity for battery charging to avoid overloading the source. PowerAssist goes further by adding battery power to support the supply during short peaks, then recharges the battery when the load drops.
Can MultiPlus-II units be used in parallel or three-phase systems?
Yes. Up to six units can be connected in parallel for higher output, and three units of the same model can be configured for three-phase operation, with up to six sets of three paralleled for larger systems.
Is an external current sensor required?
No, it is optional. An external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) can be added to extend the PowerControl and PowerAssist range and to optimise self-consumption with external current sensing.
Can the MultiPlus-II be monitored remotely?
Yes. When connected to a GX device such as a Cerbo GX, system data can be stored and viewed on the free VRM portal, and settings can be changed remotely over the internet.
