Description

The Victron MultiPlus-II 24/5000/120-50 is a powerful 24 V multifunctional inverter/charger that combines a heavy duty sine wave inverter, a 120 A battery charger and a fast 50 A transfer switch in one rugged unit. With 5000 VA of continuous output on tap it suits larger professional marine, vehicle and off-grid installations, and its integrated anti-islanding makes it equally suited to grid-tied Energy Storage Systems where safe interaction with the utility is essential. PowerControl and PowerAssist give the unit smart control of the incoming supply; PowerControl limits the current taken from a shore or generator connection, while PowerAssist injects up to 5000 VA of battery power to absorb short load peaks without tripping the source. If the mains fails, transfer to inverter operation is completed in less than 20 milliseconds so connected equipment runs on uninterrupted, and an optional external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) can be added to broaden the PowerControl and PowerAssist envelope. A second AC output drops non critical loads when the supply is lost, and the platform scales with up to six units in parallel or a three phase configuration for high demand sites. The system is set up through VEConfigure using an MK3-USB interface, and connecting a GX device such as a Cerbo GX adds local monitoring along with full remote oversight and data logging on the free VRM portal.

How fast does the MultiPlus-II switch to battery power during a grid failure?
The transfer to inverter operation happens in less than 20 milliseconds, so computers and other electronic equipment continue to operate without disruption.
What do PowerControl and PowerAssist do?
PowerControl lets you set a maximum shore or generator current; the unit then uses only the spare capacity for battery charging to avoid overloading the source. PowerAssist goes further by adding battery power to support the supply during short peaks, then recharges the battery when the load drops.
Can the MultiPlus-II be used in parallel or three-phase systems?
Yes. Up to six units can be connected in parallel for higher output, and three units of the same model can be configured for three-phase operation, with up to six sets of three paralleled for larger systems.
Is an external current sensor required?
No, it is optional. An external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) can be added to extend the PowerControl and PowerAssist range and to optimise self-consumption with external current sensing.
Can the MultiPlus-II be monitored remotely?
Yes. When connected to a GX device such as a Cerbo GX, system data can be stored and viewed on the free VRM portal, and settings can be changed remotely over the internet.
