Description
The Victron MultiPlus-II 48/4500/55-32 GX combines a powerful 48 V sine wave inverter, a battery charger and a fast transfer switch in a single compact enclosure. It is one of the newer-generation MultiPlus-II models, offering more power per kilogram and improved performance at high temperatures. PowerControl lets you cap the current drawn from a limited shore or generator supply, while PowerAssist adds inverter power in parallel with that source to ride through short load peaks without tripping the supply, then recharges the battery once the load eases.
When the incoming supply fails, the unit changes over to inverter operation in less than 20 milliseconds, so connected equipment keeps running without interruption. A second AC output can shed non-essential loads automatically, and an optional external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) extends the PowerControl and PowerAssist range for whole-installation current sensing. Up to six units can be paralleled for higher output and three units can be configured for three-phase operation, so the system scales with demand, and it is compatible with Lithium, Lead-acid, Zinc-Bromine and more battery chemistries.
The MultiPlus-II is ESS ready with integrated anti-islanding for safe grid-interactive operation, and is fully configurable through VEConfigure using an MK3-USB interface. As a GX version it has a built-in GX device, so there is no need for a separate Cerbo GX: it provides on-board system monitoring and control and connects directly to the free VRM online portal for remote oversight and settings changes over the internet.

How fast does the MultiPlus-II switch to battery power during a grid failure?
The transfer to inverter operation happens in less than 20 milliseconds, so computers and other electronic equipment continue to operate without disruption.
What do PowerControl and PowerAssist do?
PowerControl lets you set a maximum shore or generator current; the unit then uses only the spare capacity for battery charging to avoid overloading the source. PowerAssist goes further by adding battery power to support the supply during short peaks, then recharges the battery when the load drops.
Can the MultiPlus-II be used in parallel or three-phase systems?
Yes. Up to six units can be connected in parallel for higher output, and three units of the same model can be configured for three-phase operation, with up to six sets of three paralleled for larger systems.
Is an external current sensor required?
No, it is optional. An external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) can be added to extend the PowerControl and PowerAssist range and to optimise self-consumption with external current sensing.
Can the MultiPlus-II be monitored remotely?
Yes. When connected to a GX device such as a Cerbo GX, system data can be stored and viewed on the free VRM portal, and settings can be changed remotely over the internet.
What does the GX in this model mean?
This model has a built-in GX device, so it provides system monitoring and control and connects to the free VRM portal without needing a separate GX device such as a Cerbo GX.
