Description
The Victron MultiPlus-II 48/5000/70-50 is a high output 48 V multifunctional inverter/charger that brings together a strong sine wave inverter, a 70 A battery charger and a fast 50 A transfer switch in a single steel enclosure. The 48 V design keeps DC currents and cable losses low, making this 5000 VA unit ideal for substantial professional marine, vehicle and off-grid systems, and its built-in anti-islanding makes it well suited to grid-tied Energy Storage Systems that must coexist safely with the utility.
The unit's intelligence comes from PowerControl and PowerAssist; PowerControl caps the current drawn from a shore or generator supply so it is never overloaded, while PowerAssist contributes up to 5000 VA of battery power to smooth out brief load peaks. When the incoming supply is interrupted, changeover to inverter operation happens in less than 20 milliseconds, keeping connected loads running without a flicker, and an optional external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) can extend the PowerControl and PowerAssist range.
A second AC output sheds non critical loads the moment the mains disappears, and the system grows easily, supporting up to six units in parallel or a three phase layout for the most demanding installations. Configuration is handled in VEConfigure through an MK3-USB interface, and adding a GX device such as a Cerbo GX delivers local monitoring plus remote oversight and data logging via the free VRM portal.

How fast does the MultiPlus-II switch to battery power during a grid failure?
The transfer to inverter operation happens in less than 20 milliseconds, so computers and other electronic equipment continue to operate without disruption.
What do PowerControl and PowerAssist do?
PowerControl lets you set a maximum shore or generator current; the unit then uses only the spare capacity for battery charging to avoid overloading the source. PowerAssist goes further by adding battery power to support the supply during short peaks, then recharges the battery when the load drops.
Can the MultiPlus-II be used in parallel or three-phase systems?
Yes. Up to six units can be connected in parallel for higher output, and three units of the same model can be configured for three-phase operation, with up to six sets of three paralleled for larger systems.
Is an external current sensor required?
No, it is optional. An external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) can be added to extend the PowerControl and PowerAssist range and to optimise self-consumption with external current sensing.
Can the MultiPlus-II be monitored remotely?
Yes. When connected to a GX device such as a Cerbo GX, system data can be stored and viewed on the free VRM portal, and settings can be changed remotely over the internet.
