Description
The Victron MultiPlus-II 48/8000/110-100 is a powerful inverter, battery charger and AC transfer switch in a single enclosure. It produces a clean 230 VAC sine wave for demanding loads, while its built-in charger replenishes the battery whenever shore power or a generator is available. Switching between mains and inverter operation is automatic, with a changeover that completes in under 20 milliseconds so that computers, electronics and other sensitive equipment carry on without interruption.
PowerControl lets you cap the current drawn from a limited shore or generator connection, using only the spare capacity for charging so the source is never overloaded, while PowerAssist adds battery power on top of the supply to cover short, heavy peaks and then recharges once the load eases. An optional external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) can extend this range and help optimise self-consumption, and the second AC output makes it easy to shed non-critical loads. The unit is ESS ready with built-in anti-islanding for grid-parallel energy storage, and it is configured through VEConfigure with an MK3-USB interface, with full monitoring and remote control available through a GX device and the free VRM portal.
As one of the high-power models in the range, this 8 kVA unit can be paralleled for greater output only when an external AC transfer switch is used; the 8 kVA, 10 kVA and 15 kVA models share this requirement, which keeps larger single-phase and three-phase systems safe and well coordinated. The robust steel housing, comprehensive protection and wide operating temperature range make it well suited to marine, off-grid and backup installations.

How fast does the MultiPlus-II switch to battery power during a grid failure?
The transfer to inverter operation happens in less than 20 milliseconds, so computers and other electronic equipment continue to operate without disruption.
What do PowerControl and PowerAssist do?
PowerControl lets you set a maximum shore or generator current; the unit then uses only the spare capacity for battery charging to avoid overloading the source. PowerAssist goes further by adding battery power to support the supply during short peaks, then recharges the battery when the load drops.
Can these high-power models be paralleled?
Yes, but the 8 kVA, 10 kVA and 15 kVA models can only be connected in parallel when an external AC transfer switch is used; see the MultiPlus-II External Transfer Switch application manual.
Is an external current sensor required?
No, it is optional. An external AC current sensor (50 A or 100 A) can be added to extend the PowerControl and PowerAssist range and to optimise self-consumption with external current sensing.
Can the MultiPlus-II be monitored remotely?
Yes. When connected to a GX device such as a Cerbo GX, system data can be stored and viewed on the free VRM portal, and settings can be changed remotely over the internet.
