Description
The Phoenix Charger is the original microprocessor-controlled mains charger from Victron Energy, built for marine and demanding leisure use where a rugged, fan-cooled unit is wanted. Its adaptive battery management automatically tunes the charge process to the way the battery is used, shortening absorption after shallow discharges to limit corrosion and extending it after deep discharges to ensure a full recharge.\n\nThis 12V 50A model suits larger banks, charging a main house battery and topping up a separate starter battery through a dedicated output rated at up to 4 A. An included temperature sensor lowers the charge voltage as the battery warms, while the storage mode reduces voltage when the battery is left connected, protecting the plates from corrosion over long lay-up periods.\n\nUnlike the later Phoenix Smart IP43 range, this charger has no Bluetooth. All charge parameters are set through the RS-485 data port using the free VEConfigure software with an MK2-USB interface, and an optional Charger Control panel adds remote status indication and output-current limiting for use on small generators or limited shore power.

Does this Phoenix Charger have Bluetooth?
No. This is the original Phoenix Charger, configured through its RS-485 data port using Victron VEConfigure software and an MK2-USB interface. For built-in Bluetooth and the VictronConnect app, choose the Phoenix Smart IP43 Charger range instead.
What battery bank size suits the 12/50?
Victron recommends a battery capacity of 200 to 800 Ah for the 12V 50A model.
Can it charge a second starter battery?
Yes. In addition to the main house output it provides a dedicated starter-battery output rated at up to 4 A.
Can it run on a generator or limited shore power?
Yes. Output current can be limited from the optional Charger Control panel to reduce the power drawn from the AC supply, which is useful with small gensets or limited shore power.
Does it include a battery temperature sensor?
Yes. Every Phoenix Charger ships with a battery temperature sensor so charge voltage is automatically compensated as battery temperature changes.
