Description
The SmartSolar MPPT 100/15 is an ultra-fast maximum power point tracking solar charge controller from Victron Energy, rated for a 100 V solar array and 15 A of charge current into a 12 V or 24 V battery bank. It continuously tracks the optimum operating point of the panels, harvesting up to 30 per cent more energy than a PWM controller and up to 10 per cent more than a slower MPPT, with peak conversion efficiency above 98 per cent and no cooling fan.
Built-in Bluetooth lets you set up, monitor and update the controller from a phone or tablet using the free VictronConnect app, while the VE.Direct port provides a wired link to a GX device or PC for system-wide monitoring through the VRM portal. A configurable load output with the BatteryLife algorithm disconnects connected loads before the battery is over-discharged, helping to protect lead-acid and lithium banks alike.
A multi-stage adaptive charge algorithm, internal temperature compensation and a fully discharged battery recovery function keep batteries healthy across a wide range of conditions. Optional external voltage and temperature sensing via a Smart Battery Sense or BMV-712 further improves charging accuracy.

What is the difference between MPPT and PWM charging?
An MPPT controller continuously tracks the maximum power point of the solar array, so it can convert excess panel voltage into extra charge current. Victron states this ultra-fast MPPT improves energy harvest by up to 30 per cent compared with a PWM controller, and by up to 10 per cent compared with a slower MPPT, especially under changing light.
Does the 100/15 have Bluetooth?
Yes. Bluetooth Smart is built in, so you can set up, monitor, update and synchronise the controller wirelessly using the free VictronConnect app on a phone or tablet. Bluetooth can also be disabled if required.
How do I connect it to a GX device or PC?
The controller has a VE.Direct port for a wired data connection to a Color Control GX, other GX products, a PC or other devices, which allows monitoring through the Victron VRM portal.
How large a solar array can I connect?
The maximum PV open circuit voltage is 100 V and the maximum PV short circuit current is 15 A. Victron lists a nominal PV power of 220 W at 12 V and 440 W at 24 V. If more PV power is connected the controller simply limits its input.
What does the load output do?
The load output can power equipment directly and will disconnect the load when the battery reaches a preset voltage, preventing over-discharge. The BatteryLife algorithm adjusts this level day by day to keep a lead-acid battery healthy, and the maximum continuous load current is 20 A.
