Description

The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 250/60 is a high-voltage solar charge controller that gathers energy from a PV array and stores it efficiently in a 12, 24 or 48 V battery bank, automatically detecting the system voltage on connection. Its ultra-fast Maximum Power Point Tracking continuously follows the optimum operating point of the array, improving energy harvest in changing light and partial shading conditions where conventional controllers can settle on a lower power point. Built-in Bluetooth Smart allows the controller to be set up, monitored and updated from a phone or tablet using the free VictronConnect app, while a VE.Direct port provides a wired link to a GX device and the VRM portal for remote monitoring. A fully programmable, multi-stage adaptive charge algorithm, optional external battery sensing and a programmable relay let the unit be tuned to the battery and the installation. Rated at 60 A of charge current, this model uses two pairs of MC4 connectors for the PV array and accepts up to 250 V of PV open circuit voltage, suiting larger series-connected arrays on marine, vehicle and off-grid systems. Extensive electronic protection covers PV reverse polarity, output short circuit and over-temperature operation.

What battery voltages does this charge controller support?
It automatically selects between 12, 24 and 48 V battery systems. A 36 V system can also be selected using the VictronConnect software tool.
What is the maximum PV array voltage I can connect?
The maximum PV open circuit voltage is 250 V in the coldest conditions, with a 245 V start-up and operating maximum. The PV voltage must exceed the battery voltage plus 5 V for the controller to start.
How do I monitor and configure the controller?
Built-in Bluetooth Smart lets you set up, monitor and update the controller from a smartphone or tablet using the free VictronConnect app. A wired VE.Direct connection to a GX device is also supported, and a pluggable SmartSolar LCD display is available as an option.
Can I run several units together?
Yes. Up to 10 units can be synchronised over Bluetooth so they share charge stages when charging the same battery bank.
Can the controller read the actual battery voltage and temperature?
It has an internal temperature sensor, and optional external battery voltage and temperature sensing is available over Bluetooth using a Smart Battery Sense, a BMV-712 Smart Battery Monitor or a SmartShunt.
