Description

The Victron Orion 24/12-70 is a high-power non-isolated DC-DC converter that steps a 24V supply down to a 12V output, delivering up to 70A (840W continuous). The output is adjustable with a potentiometer over a 10 to 15V range, with a factory setting of 13.2V, so it can run substantial 12V loads from a 24V system or buffer-charge a 12V battery from a 24V source.

Efficiency is around 92 percent and a temperature-controlled fan keeps the unit cool at this high power level. A remote on/off connector removes the need for a high-current switch in the input wiring and can be operated by a low-power switch or the engine run/stop signal. Adjustable-output models can be paralleled, up to five units, to increase the available output current.

Power connections use M6 bolts for secure high-current wiring, and the converter installs without special tools.

Can the Orion 24/12-70 charge a battery?
It can buffer-charge a 12V battery from a 24V source because the output is adjustable, but it is a converter rather than a multi-stage charger. For a controlled charge profile use an Orion-Tr Smart DC-DC charger.
How much power can it deliver?
Up to 70A continuous at a 12V output, which is around 840W, with a short-term maximum of 85A. It is the highest-output unit in the non-isolated Orion 24/12 range.
Does it have a cooling fan?
Yes. A temperature-controlled fan keeps the converter cool at this high power level and only runs when needed.
Is it isolated?
No. This is a non-isolated converter, so the 24V input and 12V output share a common negative. If galvanic isolation is required, choose an isolated converter.
