Description
The Orion XS 12/12-50A is a high-efficiency DC-DC battery charger for dual battery systems in vehicles and boats with a 12V input and 12V output. It charges a service battery from the starter battery or alternator and is engineered for systems fitted with a Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternator, where the charging voltage is often too low to fully charge the service battery, and for long cable runs where voltage drop reduces charge voltage at the battery.
An integrated engine shutdown detection mechanism establishes whether the engine is running and only activates the charger when the alternator is supplying power, protecting the starter battery from deep discharge. The adaptive four-stage charge algorithm (bulk, absorption, float and storage) shortens the absorption time after shallow discharges and extends it after deep discharges, with fully programmable charge profiles and eight pre-programmed battery settings for lead-acid and lithium batteries.
Built-in Bluetooth Smart, a VE.Direct port and VE.Smart Networking allow the charger to be configured and monitored through the VictronConnect app and to receive voltage, temperature and current data from a compatible monitor such as a SmartShunt or BMV. The unit is rated IP65, is cooled by natural convection without a fan, and an unlimited number of units can be connected in parallel to increase output current.
