Description

The Victron 12V AGM Telecom battery is a 200Ah front-terminal valve-regulated lead-acid (VRLA) battery built around Absorbent Glass Mat (AGM) construction, in which the electrolyte is absorbed into a glass-fibre mat between the plates. The connection terminals are brought out to the front of the case rather than the top, so the battery suits racked installations and any location where top access is restricted. It is a practical floor-space saver on boats and in vehicles, as well as in the telecom cabinets it was originally designed for.

AGM construction gives very low internal resistance, allowing the battery to accept high charge and discharge currents for demanding loads. Lead-calcium grids and high-purity materials hold self-discharge below 2% per month at 20C, so the battery can be stored for long periods between charges. With a 12-year float design life and more than 500 cycles at 50% depth of discharge, it suits both standby and moderate cyclic marine duty, and its 200Ah capacity makes it the largest battery in the Telecom range.

The battery is sealed and maintenance-free, needs no electrolyte topping up and can be mounted in most orientations. Charge it as a 12V AGM battery using the absorption and float voltages given in the specifications.

What does the front-access terminal design offer?
The terminals are brought out to the front of the case rather than the top, so the battery can be installed in racks or in locations where top access is limited. This makes it a useful floor-space saver on boats and in vehicles.
What charge voltages should I use?
Victron specifies an absorption voltage of 14.4 to 14.7V and a float voltage of 13.6 to 13.8V at 20C, with a storage voltage of 13.2V. Use the higher absorption figure if the battery is cycled regularly.
Does the battery need maintenance or topping up?
No. It is a sealed valve-regulated AGM battery in which the electrolyte is absorbed into a glass-fibre mat, so there is no need to check or top up electrolyte levels.
How long can it be stored without charging?
Thanks to lead-calcium grids and high-purity materials, self-discharge is less than 2% per month at 20C, so the battery can be stored for extended periods between charges. Self-discharge roughly doubles for every 10C rise in temperature.
What cycle life can I expect?
The battery is rated for more than 500 cycles at 80% depth of discharge, 750 cycles at 50% DoD and 1800 cycles at 30% DoD, with a 12-year float design life at 20C.
