Description

The ACR GlobalFix V4 is a full-featured 406 MHz Emergency Position-Indicating Radio Beacon that summons help when the unexpected happens at sea. Should you need it, the beacon relays your location to the worldwide Cospas-Sarsat network of search and rescue satellites, allowing responders to reach you quickly. An internal 66 channel GPS speeds up position acquisition from a cold start, a 121.5 MHz homing signal guides rescuers to your exact position, and a 4-LED array strobe helps them locate you visually in low light.

This is the Category 2 version, supplied with a manual-release bracket for stowage in an accessible location; the beacon activates automatically when removed from the bracket and in contact with water, or can be activated manually. A protective keypad cover helps prevent false alarms, and two built-in self-tests monitor transmission, battery and GPS performance. The high-impact UV-resistant housing is built for years of harsh-environment use, with a user-replaceable battery rated for 10 years and a minimum 48 hour transmit time at minus 20 degrees Celsius.

What is the difference between a Category 1 and Category 2 EPIRB?
A Category 1 EPIRB deploys automatically via a hydrostatic release when a vessel sinks, floating free and activating in the water. A Category 2 EPIRB, like this one, is manually deployed; it activates when removed from its bracket and in contact with water, or can be activated manually.
How long does the battery last?
The user-replaceable lithium battery pack has a 10 year replacement interval and provides a minimum 48 hours of transmit time at minus 20 degrees Celsius, longer at higher temperatures.
Do I need to register the EPIRB?
Yes. All 406 MHz beacons must be registered, free of charge, with the national authority of the country in which you live. Registration is how search and rescue teams identify who you are if the beacon is ever activated.
