Description
The Garmin AIS 800 is a black-box Automatic Identification System (AIS) Class B SOTDMA transceiver that transmits your vessel position and receives surrounding AIS targets for display on a connected Garmin chartplotter. SOTDMA transmission helps your boat secure regular, prioritised transmission slots so you remain visible among heavy traffic, improving situational awareness and collision avoidance. The unit must be programmed with a valid MMSI by an authorised installer before it will transmit.
An internal GPS antenna supplies the required position data, with an optional external GPS antenna available for metal-hulled vessels or poor-reception locations. A built-in antenna splitter lets the AIS 800 share a single VHF antenna with an onboard VHF radio, and it connects over a NMEA 2000 network or NMEA 0183. The IPX7-rated housing is designed for below-deck installation in the marine environment.
