Description
The Balmar ARS-5-VL-01 is a Smart Ready retrofit kit that lets owners of Yanmar engines fitted with a factory Valeo 120A/12V alternator add Balmar multi-stage regulation without replacing the alternator. Balmar's patented Smart Ready design converts the standard single-stage internal regulator so the Valeo alternator can be driven by the external ARS-5 regulator, delivering the faster, more complete, battery-specific charging normally associated with shore-power chargers. Should the external regulator ever fail, the internal regulator continues to provide basic charging as a come-home backup.
The kit contains the 30-SR12-02 internal regulator retrofit, an ARS-5-H external regulator with wiring harness, and the alternator and battery temperature sensor cables needed to complete the conversion. The ARS-5 provides user-selectable programs for deep cycle flooded, gel, AGM and spiral wound batteries plus a universal default program, along with advanced programming modes and over-temperature protection. Installation is straightforward and requires only common hand tools, and the kit includes the tool needed to install the brushes. It suits recent Yanmar 2YM, 3YM, 3JH and 4JH engines equipped with the Valeo alternator.
