What is included in this AIS system bundle?
This bundle contains the NAIS-500 Class B AIS transceiver and its external GPS antenna, the NSPL-500 AIS/VHF antenna splitter with its cables, and an NMEA 2000 starter kit for networking. It is a complete plug-and-play Class B AIS package; only a VHF antenna is required and not supplied.
Why include the NSPL-500 splitter?
The NSPL-500 lets the AIS transceiver share your existing VHF antenna with your VHF voice radio, so you do not have to fit a second antenna. It has no insertion loss on receive and only a typical 1 dB loss on transmit.
Does it transmit as well as receive?
Yes. The NAIS-500 at the heart of this bundle is a full Class B AIS transceiver, so it transmits your own vessel position and receives other vessels. An MMSI must be programmed before it will transmit.
Which displays does it work with?
It networks over NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183 with compatible B&G, Simrad and Lowrance multifunction displays such as Zeus and Vulcan, overlaying AIS targets on the chart.
Is a VHF antenna supplied?
No. A standard marine band VHF antenna is required and is not included. The supplied NSPL-500 splitter then allows that one antenna to serve both the AIS and your VHF radio.
