Description

The GPS-500 is the external GPS antenna for the NAIS-500 Class B AIS transceiver. An AIS transceiver has to know where it is before it can broadcast your vessel data, and this is the antenna that tells it - a compact, low-profile white housing that pole or surface mounts anywhere it has a clear view of the sky.

It connects to the NAIS-500 GPS socket via an SMA connector. Order it as a spare or replacement for an existing NAIS-500 installation, or where the transceiver has been supplied as a module without its antenna.

What is the GPS-500?
The GPS-500 is the external GPS antenna used by the NAIS-500 Class B AIS transceiver to obtain the position fix it needs to transmit your vessel data. It connects to the GPS antenna socket on the NAIS-500 using its SMA connector.
Is this antenna included with the NAIS-500?
Yes, a GPS antenna is supplied as part of the NAIS-500 kit (000-13609-001). The GPS-500 is offered separately as a replacement or spare antenna for that system.
How should the antenna be mounted?
Mount the GPS-500 where it has a clear view of the sky. It can be pole mounted on a 1 inch 14 TPI thread or surface mounted with the supplied gasket and screws. Do not mount it up a mast where vessel motion reduces position accuracy, and keep it out of the direct path of a radar transmitter.
Will it work with any AIS unit?
The GPS-500 is designed for the Navico NAIS-500 Class B AIS transceiver (B&G, Simrad and Lowrance). It uses an SMA connector to match that unit.
