Description

The Victron Orion-Tr Smart 12/24-15 steps a 12V supply up to charge a 24V service battery at up to 15A (360W continuous at 40 degrees C). Its wide 8 to 17V input and buck-boost design hold the output steady even when the source voltage drops, a frequent situation on boats and vehicles fitted with a Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternator or where long cable runs cause voltage loss.

An adaptive three-stage charge algorithm (bulk, absorption, float) suits both lead-acid and lithium batteries, shortening the absorption phase after a shallow discharge and lengthening it after a deep one so the battery is fully recharged without being overcharged. Engine-running detection guards the input battery against discharge, and the converter can instead be set as a fixed-voltage power supply. Built-in Bluetooth provides monitoring, configuration and firmware updates through the VictronConnect app.

The unit is short-circuit proof, can be paralleled in unlimited numbers to increase output, and carries IP43 protection for the electronics when installed with the screw terminals facing down. A remote on/off input is fitted and installation needs no special tools.

Is the Orion-Tr Smart 12/24-15 isolated?
No. It is a non-isolated charger, so input and output share a common negative. If galvanic isolation between the 12V source and the 24V battery is required, choose an isolated Orion-Tr Smart model.
What does 12/24-15 mean?
It indicates a nominal 12V input, a nominal 24V output and a 15A continuous output current. The unit steps a 12V supply up to charge a 24V battery bank.
Can it charge lithium batteries?
Yes. The adaptive three-stage algorithm works with both lead-acid and lithium batteries. For lithium the absorption time is fixed (default two hours) and all parameters are set in VictronConnect.
Will it work with a smart alternator?
Yes. The wide 8 to 17V input with buck-boost keeps the 24V output stable even when a Euro 5 or Euro 6 smart alternator supplies a low voltage, and engine-running detection protects the input battery.
Does it have a VE.Direct port?
No. The Orion-Tr Smart range has no VE.Direct port. Monitoring and configuration use built-in Bluetooth and the VictronConnect app.
