Description

The iKonvert Gateway lets legacy NMEA 0183 equipment share data with a modern NMEA 2000 network, and vice versa. With more and more instruments moving to NMEA 2000, most boats now run a mixture of the two standards, and iKonvert provides safe, accurate, bidirectional conversion between them. It draws its power and data directly from the NMEA 2000 backbone through an integral Micro drop cable, while the NMEA 0183 side uses an opto-isolated ISO cable with bare-ended wires for connection to dedicated hardware.

Operation is configured through four internal DIP switches, selecting from a range of preset modes covering GPS, wind, heading, depth, AIS, autopilot and full multi-sentence conversion at 4800, 38400 or 115200 baud. A dedicated RAW mode encapsulates NMEA 2000 PGNs in a proprietary sentence at 230400 baud for use with software such as CANboat and Signal K. Full galvanic isolation protects both networks, and a compass-safe distance of 0.5m is recommended when siting the unit below deck.

Does the iKonvert convert data in both directions?
Yes. Conversions are bidirectional. For example, in Depth mode NMEA 0183 depth data is converted to NMEA 2000, and any NMEA 2000 depth data on the network is converted to NMEA 0183.
How is the iKonvert powered?
The iKonvert takes its power and data directly from the NMEA 2000 network through its integral Micro drop cable, so no separate power supply is needed.
How do I select the conversion mode?
Operating modes are set using four DIP switches inside the unit. Set the switches for the required mode, then power cycle the iKonvert and it will start up in that mode. Setting all switches on selects RAW mode at 230400 baud.
