Description

The Garmin 509LH (Airmar R509LH) is the highest-power thru-hull CHIRP transducer in the range, built around a 25-element broadband ceramic array. It sweeps a 28 to 60 kHz low band and a 130 to 210 kHz high band, giving 112 kHz of total bandwidth from one transducer. The CHIRP sweep delivers shallow-water-like target separation at extreme depths and at low frequencies. With 2 to 3 kW of dual-range transmit power the 509LH sounds to 10,000 ft, with the high band returning fine detail to 1,500 ft. Its very narrow beam at both frequencies concentrates energy on the target for outstanding deep-water imaging. The epoxy housing installs as an external thru-hull with a High-Performance Fairing and suits fibreglass, wood or metal hulls up to 25 degrees deadrise on vessels of 12 m and above. An integral depth and fast-response temperature sensor is built in. The transducer terminates in bare wires and requires the Garmin GSD 26 CHIRP sonar module, which connects to networked GPSMAP chartplotters.

Does the 509LH need a separate sonar module?
Yes. The 509LH is a 2-3 kW bare-wire CHIRP transducer that requires the Garmin GSD 26 CHIRP sonar module. The GSD 26 connects to networked GPSMAP chartplotters via the Garmin Marine Network.
What frequencies and power does the 509LH use?
It is a dual-band CHIRP transducer covering 28 to 60 kHz (low) and 130 to 210 kHz (high), with 112 kHz of total bandwidth and 2 to 3 kW of dual-range transmit power.
How deep can the 509LH sound?
The low band reaches 10,000 ft and the high band returns detail to approximately 1,500 ft, depending on water conditions. It is the deepest-sounding thru-hull in the range.
How is the 509LH mounted?
It is an external thru-hull transducer with an epoxy housing and a High-Performance Fairing, for fibreglass, wood or metal hulls up to 25 degrees deadrise on boats of 12 m (40 ft) and above.
Does the 509LH read water temperature?
Yes. It includes an integral depth reading and a fast-response water-temperature sensor.
