Description
The Garmin Class B Mechanical Linear Drive Unit is a self-contained hydraulic drive that steers the rudder of a sailboat under the command of a compatible Garmin autopilot. Because the ram, pump and reservoir are filled and tested at the factory, no hydraulic hoses need to be connected during installation. A solenoid clutch extends and retracts the rod to move the tiller arm or quadrant.
The included rudder feedback sensor reports rudder position back to the autopilot for accurate steering. The drive must be mounted under deck and limited by physical rudder end stops, and it delivers strong intermittent thrust for confident control of medium to large sailing yachts.
