Description

The Garmin Reactor 40 Mechanical autopilot corepack brings GPS-stabilised steering to boats that use a mechanical drive unit or solenoid valve block. The Reactor 40 CCU is a solid-state course computer that senses heading, attitude and rate of turn to hold a course or follow a route accurately, while the supplied ECU 10 drives the steering. This corepack is built for retrofit and mixed installations: it connects to a Garmin or compatible mechanical drive, or to a solenoid drive via the appropriate cable, with a three-terminal potentiometer rudder feedback sensor such as the GRF 10 used on non-Garmin drives. A Shadow Drive sensor can be added on hydraulic steering. The supplied GHC 20 colour instrument gives dedicated control at the helm, and NMEA 2000 connectivity links the system to compatible Garmin chartplotters. Dockside and Sea Trial wizards tune performance to your boat.

What drives does this corepack work with?
It works with mechanical drive units and solenoid valve blocks. You connect a Garmin drive directly, or adapt an existing drive or solenoid using the appropriate cable (sold separately).
Is a rudder feedback sensor needed?
If you use a drive not sold by Garmin, you must add a three-terminal potentiometer rudder feedback sensor such as the GRF 10. Frequency-based rudder feedback sensors are not supported.
Does it include a control head?
Yes, the GHC 20 autopilot instrument is supplied. The CCU can also be controlled from a compatible Garmin chartplotter on the same NMEA 2000 network.
Can I use the Shadow Drive feature?
The Shadow Drive sensor is an optional accessory that can only be used on a boat with hydraulic steering. On other steering types an autopilot disable switch is used instead.
What power supply is required?
The ECU 10 connects to a 12 to 24 Vdc supply through the supplied 40 A fuse, and the NMEA 2000 network is powered from a 9 to 16 Vdc source.
