Description
The Garmin Reactor 40 Steer-by-Wire autopilot adds GPS-stabilised steering to boats fitted with Yamaha Helm Master electronic steering. Instead of a hydraulic pump or mechanical drive, the Reactor 40 CCU connects to the steering controller through its CAN bus and commands the existing Yamaha steering directly, which keeps installation simple and clean. The CCU is a solid-state course computer that senses heading, attitude and rate of turn to hold a course or follow a route accurately. The supplied GHC 20 colour instrument provides dedicated control at the helm, while NMEA 2000 connectivity ties the system into compatible Garmin chartplotters for waypoint and route navigation. Dockside and Sea Trial wizards tune performance to your boat.

Does this autopilot need a pump or drive unit?
No. Steer-by-wire systems command the boat existing electronic steering directly, so there is no hydraulic pump, ECU or mechanical drive to install. The CCU connects to the steering controller through its CAN bus.
What kind of boat is this for?
It is for boats fitted with compatible electronic (steer-by-wire) steering. The steering controller CAN bus must be powered and properly terminated.
How long is the CCU cable?
The CCU cable is 3 m (9 ft.) and connects the CCU to the steering system. It must not be cut, but extension cables are available if needed.
Does this package include a control head?
Yes, the GHC 20 autopilot instrument is supplied for dedicated control at the helm. The CCU can also be controlled from a compatible Garmin chartplotter on the same NMEA 2000 network.
