Description

The GMR Fantom 4 (4 ft open array) delivers solid-state CHIRP pulse-compression performance with 50 W of peak power, approximately equivalent to a 6 kW magnetron. This combination provides excellent close-in and long-range detection while running cooler and using less energy than a traditional magnetron radar.

MotionScope Doppler technology highlights moving targets in colour, making it easy to identify potential collision threats, flocks of birds and approaching weather at a glance. Auto Bird Gain optimises gain to reveal feeding birds, while MARPA tracks up to 10 targets simultaneously for confident situational awareness.

The open-array form factor combines a compact pedestal with a 4 ft array that rotates at up to 48 RPM for fast target updates. Dual-range scanning with overlay lets you watch near and far at once, all controlled through a compatible Garmin chartplotter over BlueNet or the Garmin Marine Network. The system is rated to IPX6 and withstands winds up to 80 kn.

Is the GMR Fantom 4 a solid-state radar?
Yes. The GMR Fantom 4 is a solid-state CHIRP pulse-compression radar with MotionScope Doppler technology. It produces 50 W of peak power, approximately equivalent to a 6 kW magnetron, with no warm-up time and lower power draw.
What is the maximum range?
The GMR Fantom 4 detects targets out to 72 nautical miles, while a minimum range of around 6 m (20 ft) keeps nearby objects visible.
What do MotionScope and MARPA do?
MotionScope Doppler technology highlights moving targets in colour so you can quickly spot collision threats, birds and weather. MARPA can automatically track up to 10 targets simultaneously.
What size is the array and how narrow is the beam?
This system uses a 4 ft (1.2 m) open array, which delivers a sharp 1.8 degree horizontal beamwidth for strong target separation and bearing accuracy.
Which networks does it use?
The GMR Fantom 4 is compatible with both Garmin BlueNet and the Garmin Marine Network, and is controlled through a compatible Garmin chartplotter.
How weatherproof is it?
The radar is rated to IEC 60529 IPX6 for protection against heavy seas and withstands a maximum wind load of 80 kn.
