Description
The Garmin R109LH is a high-power CHIRP thru-hull transducer built around a 16-element broadband ceramic array. It transmits across two bands, 38 to 75 kHz on the low channel and 130 to 210 kHz on the high channel, giving 117 kHz of total bandwidth from a single transducer. Rather than the two fixed frequencies of traditional sonar, the CHIRP sweep returns crisp target separation and bottom definition at depths a conventional transducer cannot reach.
With 2 kW of transmit power the R109LH sounds to 8,000 ft, the low band reaching 6,000 ft and the high band 1,500 ft. Its narrow beam at both frequencies concentrates energy on the target for clean deep-water imaging. The urethane housing installs as an external thru-hull with a High-Performance Fairing and suits fibreglass, wood or metal hulls up to 22 degrees deadrise on vessels of 12 m and above. An integral depth and fast-response temperature sensor is built in. The transducer terminates in bare wires and requires the Garmin GSD 26 CHIRP sonar module, which connects to networked GPSMAP chartplotters.

Does the R109LH need a separate sonar module?
Yes. The R109LH is a 2 kW bare-wire CHIRP transducer that requires the Garmin GSD 26 CHIRP sonar module. The GSD 26 connects to networked GPSMAP chartplotters via the Garmin Marine Network; the transducer will not run from a chartplotter's built-in sonar.
What frequencies and power does the R109LH use?
It is a dual-band CHIRP transducer covering 38 to 75 kHz on the low channel and 130 to 210 kHz on the high channel, with 117 kHz of total bandwidth and 2 kW of transmit power.
How deep can the R109LH sound?
It is rated to 8,000 ft. The low band reaches approximately 6,000 ft and the high band approximately 1,500 ft, depending on water conditions.
How is the R109LH mounted?
It is an external thru-hull transducer fitted with a High-Performance Fairing. It suits fibreglass, wood or metal hulls up to 22 degrees deadrise on boats of 12 m (40 ft) and above.
Does the R109LH measure water temperature?
Yes. It includes an integral depth reading and a fast-response water-temperature sensor.
