Description

The Garmin Reactor 40 Hydraulic autopilot with SmartPump v2 brings GPS-stabilised steering to boats with hydraulic helms. The Reactor 40 CCU is a solid-state course computer that senses heading, attitude and rate of turn to hold a course or follow a route accurately. The included SmartPump v2 combines a brushless electro-hydraulic pump and its control unit in one compact, quiet unit, with Intelligent Rudder Rate Technology that automatically matches steering speed to boat speed. It suits hydraulic cylinders from 4 to 24 cu in with a configurable flow up to 2.4 L per minute, and its built-in Shadow Drive valve allows instant manual takeover. This version is supplied without a dedicated instrument: the CCU connects to a NMEA 2000 network and is controlled from a compatible Garmin chartplotter, which also provides waypoint and route data. Dockside and Sea Trial wizards tune the system to your boat.

What is the SmartPump v2?
It is an integrated hydraulic drive that combines a brushless electro-hydraulic pump and its control unit in one unit, with a built-in Shadow Drive valve. It replaces the separate pump and ECU used by other Reactor 40 hydraulic systems.
What size steering cylinder does it suit?
The SmartPump v2 suits hydraulic steering cylinders from 4 to 24 cu in, with a configurable flow rate up to 2.4 L per minute.
What does Intelligent Rudder Rate Technology do?
IRRT automatically adjusts the steering speed based on boat speed, giving more responsiveness at low speed and more stability at higher speed.
What power supply is required?
The SmartPump connects to a 10 to 30 Vdc supply (12 to 24 Vdc nominal) through a 40 A fuse, and the NMEA 2000 network is powered from a 9 to 16 Vdc source.
How is the autopilot controlled without an instrument?
The CCU connects to a NMEA 2000 network and is controlled from a compatible Garmin chartplotter. A GHC instrument can be added if you prefer dedicated controls.
