Description

The Cortex V1 brings VHF, AIS and vessel monitoring together in a single integrated system. At its heart is the Cortex M1 hub, a Class B SOTDMA smartAIS transponder that broadcasts your position at 5 W so you are seen clearly in busy waters, while a built-in heading sensor tells other vessels which way you are pointing. The supplied H1 tethered handset adds a fully featured 25 W VHF radio with Class D DSC, operated single-handed through a rotary click-wheel and a glove and salt-water capable touchscreen.

An integrated no-loss splitter lets AIS and VHF share one antenna. Continuous collision-avoidance calculations trigger voiced alerts, and smartAIS anchor watch warns you of dragging. Built-in Wi-Fi and cellular connect the Cortex apps so you can monitor battery, bilge, position and more, whether on board or ashore. NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 connectivity shares data with compatible chartplotters and instruments.

What is included with the Cortex V1?
The Cortex V1 comes with the Cortex M1 hub, a Cortex H1 tethered touchscreen handset, a GPS antenna with a 10 m cable, a power cable, an audio cable, an external sensors cable and an external Wi-Fi antenna. A separate VHF/AIS antenna, a fuse or circuit breaker and fixings are required but not supplied.
What type of AIS does the Cortex V1 use?
The Cortex V1 has a built-in Class B SOTDMA smartAIS transponder that both transmits and receives. SOTDMA transmits at 5 W, helping your vessel be seen over a greater distance, and adds smartAIS collision avoidance, anchor watch and man overboard alerts.
Do I need a separate antenna splitter?
No. The Cortex hub includes an integrated no-loss AIS/VHF splitter, so a single VHF antenna can be shared between the VHF radio and the AIS transponder with no signal loss on receive and less than 1 dB on transmit.
How does remote monitoring work?
The Cortex hub has built-in Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity. The Cortex Onboard App lets you configure and monitor the system over Wi-Fi while on board, and the Cortex Monitor App sends status and alerts to your smartphone over the cellular network so you can check on your vessel from ashore. Free monitoring provides twice-daily updates, and a Premium subscription unlocks real-time updates and device control.
Can I add more handsets?
Yes. Up to 10 Cortex handsets can be connected to one hub, in any mix of H1 tethered and H1P portable wireless versions, giving you VHF control from multiple stations around the boat.
Does the Cortex V1 connect to my chartplotter?
Yes. The hub provides an isolated NMEA 2000 port and a NMEA 0183 port with gateway translation between the two, so AIS, GPS and MOB data can be shared with compatible chartplotters, MFDs and instruments.
