Description

The Garmin SmartPump v2 is a hydraulic drive unit for Garmin Reactor marine autopilots, combining the pump, motor and electronic control unit (ECU) in a single compact assembly. It interacts with your existing hydraulic steering system to steer the boat on commands from the autopilot, and is designed to suit most vented-reservoir installations. Five SAE ORB-5 ports (H1, H2, C1, C2 and a return) give flexibility when plumbing the pump into single, dual-helm and power-assist layouts, and the unit can be reconfigured for boats with an unbalanced steering cylinder. Colour-coded electrical connectors simplify wiring, and a wide 10 to 30 Vdc input range with a 40 A blade fuse suits 12 and 24 V systems. Built from aluminium alloy with a fully-gasketed ECU and carbon-steel bracket, the SmartPump v2 is engineered for the marine environment; Garmin recommends an annual application of corrosion-inhibitor spray to extend its life.

What is the SmartPump v2?
It is a universal hydraulic autopilot pump for Garmin Reactor systems, with the pump, motor and electronic control unit (ECU) built into one compact unit. It steers the boat by acting on the existing hydraulic steering system.
What voltage and fuse does the SmartPump v2 need?
It accepts a 10 to 30 Vdc input and is protected by a 40 A blade-type fuse, so it suits both 12 V and 24 V systems.
What hydraulic fittings does the SmartPump v2 use?
The pump has five SAE ORB-5 ports (H1, H2, C1, C2 and a return). It ships with SAE ORB-5 to 1/4 in. NPT straight and elbow adapters and ORB-5 plugs for the unused ports.
Can the SmartPump v2 be used with an unbalanced steering cylinder?
Yes. The pump is supplied configured for a balanced cylinder but can be reconfigured for an unbalanced-cylinder steering system by repositioning the check-valve pistons as described in the installation instructions.
Does my steering system need a vented reservoir?
Yes. The SmartPump v2 must not be installed on a steering system with an unvented reservoir, as this will damage the pump. Verify the steering has a vented reservoir before installing.
How much does the SmartPump v2 weigh?
The pump weighs 5.6 kg (12.25 lb.) and measures 186 x 190 x 264 mm.
