Description
The Garmin GMS 10 Network Port Expander adds extra ports to a Garmin Marine Network, working as an Ethernet switch so you can connect more than two chartplotters and other marine network devices together. Connected devices can then share weather, mapping, sounder and position data across every display on the network. The GMS 10 also passes control signals, so sensors such as a marine weather or audio receiver power on and off automatically with the chartplotter, removing the need to switch each one individually. Network ports run at 10 or 100 Mbps and status LEDs indicate link, activity and port speed. If you need still more connections, two expanders can be linked together. The fully-gasketed high-impact plastic alloy case is rated to IPX7, and the unit accepts a wide 10 to 35 Vdc supply through a fused 7-pin power cable.

What does the GMS 10 do?

Is the GMS 10 a NMEA 2000 device?
No. The GMS 10 works on the Garmin Marine Network (Ethernet), used for sharing weather, mapping, sounder and position data between Garmin chartplotters and network devices. It is not a NMEA 2000 component.
Can I connect more than one GMS 10?
Yes. Two expanders can be linked together to provide additional ports when you add more network devices.
What power does the GMS 10 need?
It accepts a 10 to 35 Vdc supply through the included 7-pin power cable and draws up to 2.75 W. The power cable carries a 2.0 A fuse that should not be removed.
Does the GMS 10 control connected sensors?
Yes. It passes control signals, so sensors connected to it power on and off automatically when you turn the chartplotter on or off.
