Description

The Garmin GRF 10 is a rudder feedback sensor that tells a Garmin GHP or Reactor autopilot exactly where the rudder is. Although a Garmin autopilot can function without one, fitting a GRF 10 improves steering performance, adds a live rudder-angle indication on the helm display and helps extend the life of the drive pump by letting the autopilot work more efficiently. The sensor mounts alongside the tiller arm with the rudder amidships, linked by a 300 mm threaded rod that can be shortened to suit the installation, and is rated for a 140 degree total range of travel. It connects to the orange 12-pin rudder feedback connector on the autopilot ECU using its 2 m cable, which can be extended up to 15 m with optional extension cables. The compact polyoxymethylene body is rated to IPX7 for reliable operation in the marine environment.

What does the GRF 10 do?
It is a rudder feedback sensor that reports the rudder position to a Garmin GHP or Reactor autopilot, providing on-screen rudder-angle indication and improving steering performance and pump life.
Is a rudder feedback sensor required for the autopilot to work?
No. A Garmin autopilot can operate without a rudder feedback sensor, but fitting a GRF 10 increases performance, adds an on-screen rudder indication and helps extend the life of the pump.
How does the GRF 10 connect to the autopilot?
It connects to a compatible Garmin autopilot through a 12-pin rudder feedback connector (the orange connector on the ECU), using its 2 m cable. The cable can be extended up to 15 m with optional extensions.
What is the maximum rudder range for the GRF 10?
The sensor allows a total range of travel of 140 degrees (70 degrees each side of centre). Exceeding this range may damage the sensor.
Is the GRF 10 waterproof?
Yes. The polyoxymethylene (POM) body is rated to IEC 60529 IPX7 and withstands incidental immersion in up to 1 m of water for up to 30 minutes.
