Description

The Garmin Reactor 40 Hydraulic autopilot brings GPS-stabilised steering to boats with hydraulic helms. The Reactor 40 CCU is a solid-state course computer that senses heading, attitude and rate of turn to hold a course or follow a route, while the supplied ECU 10 drives the steering pump. A Shadow Drive sensor is included to suspend autopilot control whenever you turn the wheel and resume once you hold a steady heading. This version is supplied without a dedicated autopilot instrument: the CCU connects to a NMEA 2000 network and is controlled from a compatible Garmin chartplotter, which also provides waypoint and route data. The matching Garmin hydraulic pump is selected separately to suit your steering cylinder. Dockside and Sea Trial wizards tune the system to your boat.

Is a pump or control head included?
No. This version supplies the CCU, ECU 10 and Shadow Drive sensor only. You add a Garmin hydraulic pump sized to your cylinder, and control the autopilot from a compatible Garmin chartplotter.
How is the autopilot controlled without an instrument?
The CCU connects to a NMEA 2000 network and is controlled from a compatible Garmin chartplotter. A GHC instrument can be added if you prefer dedicated controls.
What does the Shadow Drive sensor do?
Fitted in the hydraulic steering line, it detects manual steering and suspends autopilot control, then resumes once you hold a steady heading.
What power supply is required?
The ECU 10 connects to a 12 to 24 Vdc supply through the supplied 40 A fuse, and the NMEA 2000 network is powered from a 9 to 16 Vdc source.
