Description

The Actisense PRO-MUX-2 is an intelligent, RINA type approved NMEA 0183 multiplexer that cures the interconnectivity headaches common in busy marine networks. Its eight NMEA 0183 inputs can be routed to any of the six NMEA 0183 outputs, providing a highly customisable network, while industry-leading isolation on every input and output keeps connected devices safe from the hazardous ground loops that are the number one cause of NMEA 0183 product failure.

Eight OPTO-isolated inputs and six ISO-Drive isolated outputs combine data intelligently, with advanced features including data rate conversion, auto-switching and sentence-based routing and blocking. A bi-directional serial port and an Ethernet port allow simple configuration and diagnostics: the web-based tool is reached through any browser over Ethernet, so there are no operating system compatibility issues, and a direct PC connection needs no crossover cable.

Built into a rugged 316 stainless steel housing with two-part pluggable connectors, an alarm relay and diagnostic LEDs, the PRO-MUX-2 mounts to a bulkhead or, with optional brackets, to a DIN rail for secure installation in high-vibration environments.

What is the difference between a multiplexer and a buffer?
A multiplexer such as the PRO-MUX-2 combines data from several talkers (up to eight inputs) and intelligently routes it to its outputs, whereas a buffer distributes a single source to many listeners. The PRO-MUX-2 lets you decide exactly which input data appears on each of its six outputs.
Do I need a crossover cable to connect the PRO-MUX-2 to a PC?
No. The PRO-MUX-2 supports a direct Ethernet connection to a PC without a specialised crossover cable, and its web-based configuration tool opens in any popular browser regardless of operating system.
Can the PRO-MUX-2 be mounted on a DIN rail?
Yes. The PRO-MUX-2 mounts directly to a bulkhead with the screws provided, or to a DIN rail using the optional DIN-KIT-1 brackets, which keep it secure in high-vibration environments.
