Description

The AIS5000 is Raymarine's Class A Automatic Identification System transponder, designed for commercial vessels, workboats and first-response craft that need to meet Class A carriage requirements. Class A transmits more frequently and at higher power than Class B, giving priority visibility on the AIS network.

The AIS5000 transmits at 1 W or 12.5 W automatically and uses three receivers for robust reception of both AIS channels plus the dedicated DSC channel. A 72-channel GPS/GLONASS receiver supplies precise position and timing, and a 5 inch 800 x 480 full colour LCD with rotary encoder and dedicated keys provides a clear at-a-glance interface. A microSD slot supports software updates and charts.

Built to IEC 60945 'Protected' category with IPx6 and IPx7 waterproofing and conforming to the IEC 61162 and IEC 61108 standards, the AIS5000 is suited to demanding professional installations. The AIS5000 'First Response' variant is optimised for search-and-rescue and first-responder operations.

What is the difference between Class A and Class B AIS?
Class A AIS, such as the AIS5000, transmits more frequently and at higher power (up to 12.5 W) than Class B, and is required on most commercial and SOLAS vessels. Class B units like the AIS700 are intended for leisure craft. Class A reports are given priority on the AIS network.
Does the AIS5000 include a GPS antenna?
Yes. A GNSS antenna and antenna cable assembly are supplied. The AIS5000 uses a 72-channel GPS/GLONASS receiver for the precise position and timing that Class A AIS requires.
Does the AIS5000 need its own VHF antenna?
Yes. As a Class A transponder transmitting up to 12.5 W, the AIS5000 requires a dedicated VHF antenna rated for the task, such as the Raymarine AIS5000 VHF antenna (A80590).
What does First Response mean on the AIS5000?
The AIS5000 First Response transponder is configured for search-and-rescue and first-responder vessels, giving rescue craft priority Class A visibility on the AIS network during operations.
Is the AIS5000 suitable for commercial use?
Yes. The AIS5000 is built to IEC 60945 Protected category with IPx6 and IPx7 waterproofing and conforms to the IEC 61162 and IEC 61108 standards, making it suitable for commercial and professional installations.
