Description

The T70248 packs the core of the Evolution EV-100 Wheel Pilot, the EV-1 Sensor Core, ACU-100 actuator control unit, Evolution cabling kit and cockpit wheel drive, and leaves out the pilot control head. It suits owners who already run a compatible Raymarine Axiom, Axiom 2 Pro or Axiom 2 XL chartplotter, from which the autopilot is fully controlled with LightHouse pilot integration, and anyone replacing a system that already has a p70 series head at the helm.

Capability matches the complete T70152 pack: wheel-steered sailboats up to 7,500 kg (16,500 lbs) fully laden displacement, a cockpit-mounted drive that clamps to the wheel spokes, 9-axis heading sensing and no commissioning calibration. Add a p70s control head (E70328) at any time for dedicated push-button pilot control.

Which Evolution pack suits my boat?
Match the pack to your steering system: EV-100 Wheel or Tiller for cockpit-drive sailboats, EV-100, EV-150 or EV-200 Power for hydraulic steering depending on cylinder capacity, EV-200 Sail for below-decks mechanical steering, EV-300 for solenoid-controlled systems, EV-400 for Type 2 and Type 3 drives on larger vessels, and EV-DBW for drive-by-wire steering.
Does an Evolution autopilot need calibration?
No. Set-up is automatic: the rudder gain, rudder damping, counter rudder and compass calibration routines required by earlier autopilots are no longer necessary, and the system keeps refining itself as you use the boat. This is documented in the EV-1 installation instructions (87472).
Do I need a rudder angle reference sensor?
Raymarine highly recommends the rudder angle reference transducer (M81105) on every Evolution system for optimum performance, and it is essential on ACU-300 solenoid installations. The EV-400 Sail and Power packs include a rotary rudder feedback unit, and the ACU-300 ships with one.
How do I check the displacement ratings?
Use the vessel's fully laden displacement, which Raymarine notes is often around 20 percent above the designed displacement, when comparing your boat against a drive or pack rating.
Can I control the autopilot from my chartplotter?
Yes. Compatible controllers include the Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro, Axiom 2 Pro, Axiom XL and Axiom 2 XL chartplotter families as well as the p70s and p70Rs pilot heads. Axiom 2 Pro and Axiom 2 XL need LightHouse 4 v4.4.70 or later; earlier families are supported per the compatibility tables in document 87472.
