Description

The Raymarine Magnum 12kW Pedestal is the high power scanner unit for a Magnum open array radar system, supplied complete with the VCM100 Voltage Converter Module. Its 12kW magnetron transmitter pushes the maximum range scale out to 96 nautical miles and concentrates more energy into every pulse, so the radar can detect and track small, weak and distant targets that a lower power scanner would miss.

That extra reach makes the 12kW pedestal a favourite with coastal and offshore anglers using Bird Mode to find feeding birds, and with crews venturing far offshore or working in heavy seas and poor weather. Evolution 9-axis heading data keeps plots locked to real time, automatic MARPA tracks targets around you, and a single RayNet cable links the scanner to a compatible Axiom or Axiom 2 display. Add the 4ft or 6ft Magnum antenna to build the complete system.

What is the difference between the Magnum 4kW and 12kW versions?
Magnum radars are available with a transmitter power of either 4kW or 12kW. The 4kW output is great for collision avoidance, coastal navigation and long-range weather detection. The 12kW output offers significantly higher power output which allows the radar to better detect and track small, weak and distant targets. The 12kW option is extremely popular with coastal and offshore anglers for its long-range bird finding capability, and is also an excellent choice for boats venturing far offshore or operating regularly in high seas or inclement weather.
What is the range of the Raymarine Magnum radar?
Magnum radars with a 4kW transmitter have a maximum range scale of 72 nautical miles. 12kW models have a maximum range scale of 96 nautical miles. As with any radar, the range at which you will be able to detect and track targets is related to the height of the scanner above the waterline and the height of the target being tracked.
Can a Raymarine Magnum radar be used to find birds?
Yes. All Magnum radar models come standard with Bird Mode, which optimises the radar transceiver for detecting sea bird activity, helping you target feeding birds with greater clarity up to 10nm.
Which multifunction displays is the Magnum radar compatible with?
Magnum open array radar is compatible with Raymarine Axiom 2 XL, Axiom 2 Pro, Axiom Plus, Axiom XL, Axiom Pro and Axiom multifunction displays, as well as a range of legacy displays. It is not compatible with the Element series. The scanner connects to the display using a single RayNet radar cable.
What is the warranty on a new Raymarine Magnum radar?
Raymarine radar scanners come with a standard 2-year warranty covering both parts and labour. If you register your newly purchased radar on Raymarine.com within 90 days of purchase, your warranty coverage is extended to 3 years at no additional cost.
