Description

The Raymarine Cyclone 3ft Open Array Radar pack is a complete, ready-to-install 55-watt solid-state open-array radar system. It combines the 55-watt Cyclone pedestal with the 3ft Cyclone antenna, a VCM100 voltage converter and a 15 m power and 15 m data cable set, so everything needed to add the radar to a LightHouse multifunction display is supplied in one part number.

With a peak power output equivalent to a 6 kW magnetron and a maximum range of 72 nautical miles, the system delivers excellent target separation through CHIRP pulse compression and beam-sharpening, plus Doppler target tracking, exclusive RangeFusion technology and antenna rotation up to 60 RPM. The 3ft array is rated to 100 knots of wind and the pedestal to IPX6.

What is the difference between Cyclone and Cyclone Pro?
Cyclone uses a 55-watt solid-state transmitter (equivalent to a 6 kW magnetron) with a maximum range of 72 nautical miles, while Cyclone Pro uses a 110-watt transmitter (equivalent to a 12 kW magnetron) with an extended maximum range of 96 nautical miles. Both share the same pedestal, antennas, Doppler and RangeFusion features.
Which multifunction displays is the Cyclone radar compatible with?
The Cyclone open-array radar is compatible with Raymarine LightHouse 3 multifunction displays, including Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro and Axiom XL, running at least LightHouse software version 3.15. It is also supported on Axiom 2 Pro and Axiom 2 XL displays.
Does the Cyclone radar require a VCM100 voltage converter?
Yes. The Cyclone and Cyclone Pro radars are powered through the VCM100 Voltage Converter Module (E70648), which supplies the radar from a nominal 12 V dc or 24 V dc system. Topfill radar packs include the correct VCM100; older VCM100 versions (E52091) are not suitable.
What data does the Doppler target tracking need?
Doppler features require COG (Course Over Ground) and SOG (Speed Over Ground) data from a GPS or GNSS source on the system. A heading source (e.g. an Evolution autopilot sensor) is recommended and improves Doppler performance at speeds below 15 knots, but is not essential.
Can I run two radars on the same system?
Yes. A networked Raymarine system supports a maximum of two radar scanners at any one time, for example a Cyclone open array together with a Quantum radome, or two Cyclone open arrays, subject to the positioning guidance in the installation instructions.
